Men's Swimming & Diving Takes Third at TYR Fall Classic

Aspougalis added second individual win of the weekend
MIAMI, Fla. - George Aspougalis earned his second win of the weekend Saturday to help GW men's swimming & diving land a third-place finish at the TYR Fall Classic.
The first-year from Greece took first in the 200-yard breaststroke, touching in 2:00.90, a time that ranks sixth on GW's all-time top 10.
As a team, the Colonials piled up 394 points over two days at Biscayne Bay Aquatic Center to land third in the standings behind LSU (491) and Pittsburgh (475).
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Aspougalis followed up his Friday win in the 100-yard breaststroke with another impressive performance. The newcomer was also part of GW's third-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay (1:32.03) with Andrew Cho, Max Forstenhaeusler and Tyler Kawakami.
- Moritz Fath landed third in the 500-yard freestyle in 4:35.20 and also took fourth in the B Heat of the 200-yard backstroke in 1:55.10. To close the meet, the senior from Germany was part of a fifth-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:06.09) with Forstenhaeusler, Kawakami and Youssef Ragab.
- Forstenhaeusler also produced a third-place swim, finishing the 200-yard individual medley in 1:54.01.
- Kawakami, a first-year from Hawaii, paced the squad by touching fifth in the 100-yard freestyle (:46.41), while DH Hwang was the top Colonial in the 200-yard butterfly with a sixth-place finish in 1:54.41.
- Peter Nachtwey (249.60) was GW's top diver on the 3-meter board.
UP NEXT: GW heads to Annapolis, Md., for a dual meet at Navy with Towson and Johns Hopkins on Friday, Oct. 18. The Colonials are set to make their Smith Center Pool debut the next day vs. Boston College.
