Colonials finished fifth in competitive field
MIAMI, Fla. - GW women's swimming & diving wrapped the season-opening TYR Fall Classic on Saturday with Gemma Atherley and Stine Omdahl Petersen leading the way.
Atherley landed a third-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke (2:03.49), while Omdahl Petersen placed third in the 200 breast (2:21.51).
The Colonials finished fifth out of eight teams in a competitive field over two days at Biscayne Bay Aquatic Center.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- It was Atherley's second third-place finish of the meet after also placing there in the 200-yard freestyle. On Saturday, she also teamed with Meghan Burton, Grace Olivardia and Isabela Patino on a fifth-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:33.01).
- A first-year from Norway, Omdahl Petersen finished the 200 breast in 2:21.51, a time that ranks seventh on GW's all-time top 10. The newcomer also placed 13th in the 200-yard individual medley on Saturday in 2:09.80. She was part of GW's seventh-place showing in the 200-yard medley relay (1:45.93), as well.
- Jackie Torrez finished fourth in the 200 IM in 2:07.86.
- Olivardia paced the Buff and Blue in the 100-yard freestyle (:53.57), while Andrea Moussier led the way in the 500-yard freestyle (5:03.76). Andrea Ho posted GW's top time in the 200-yard butterfly (2:05.84).
- Rachel Dickinson (189.30) was GW's top diver on the 1-meter board.
UP NEXT: GW has a break next weekend before heading to Annapolis, Md., for a dual meet at Navy with Towson and Johns Hopkins on Friday, Oct. 18. The Colonials will make their home debut the next day vs. Boston College.
