
Aspougalis Leads Men's Swimming & Diving at TYR Fall Classic

First-year claimed 100 breast Friday
MIAMI, Fla. - Making his collegiate debut, first-year George Aspougalis scored a victory in the 100-yard breaststroke Friday as George Washington men's swimming and diving kicked off the TYR Fall Classic hosted by Florida International.
The Greece native touched in 55.43 seconds to pick up the victory vs. an impressive field.
The Colonials sit in fifth place in the team standings with 194 points after the opening day at Biscayne Bay Aquatic Center behind LSU (242), Pittsburgh (237) and Army (198).
HIGHLIGHTS:
- In addition to his individual win, Aspougalis swam a leg on GW's third-place 400-yard medley relay. The newcomer teamed with Andrew Cho, Max Forstenhaeusler and Moritz Fath to finish in 3:20.83.
- Cho kicked off his senior season with a runner-up finish in the 100-yard backstroke in 50.35 seconds.
- Fath took third in the 400-yard individual medley in 4:01.87. The senior from Germany also placed third in the B heat of the 100 back in 52.41 seconds, good for 11th.
- Tyler Kawakami also put together an impressive debut, highlighted by a fourth-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle (1:42.52). The first-year from Hawaii also touched seventh in the 50-yard freestyle (:21.15). He teamed with Cho, Youssef Ragab and Max Forstenhaeusler to take sixth in the 200-yard freestyle relay to end the day (1:24.54).
- Forstenhaeusler led the Buff and Blue in the 100-yard butterfly with a seventh-place finish in 50.84 seconds.
- Diver Peter Nachtwey posted a score of 282.15 on the 1-meter board to place third.
