Colonials welcome crosstown Bison to Vern on Tuesday
GW men's soccer finishes its non-conference schedule Tuesday, hosting Howard for a 2 p.m. kickoff on the Mount Vernon Campus to begin a three-game homestand.
LAST TIME OUT: GW went 1-1 in A-10 action last week with a 1-0 win at St. Bonaventure last Wednesday before a Saturday night loss at Duquesne.
The Dukes claimed a 1-0 victory behind Jack Shearer's 65th-minute goal to drop the Colonials to 1-3 in conference play.
MOORE EXPERIENCE: Reese Moore is the most experienced member of a veteran defensive unit.
The senior captain has made 62 appearances with 58 starts for his career, logging 5,002 minutes. This season, the Ohio native has started all 12 games for the Colonials and played a team-high 1,070 minutes. He's gone the distance nine times this fall, including each of the past eight contests.
Thanks in part to Moore's excellence on the backline, the Buff and Blue have recorded 24 clean sheets over his career, including four this fall.
TRUE BUFF AND BLUE: GW has received quality minutes up top this season from first-year forward Liam Emson, whose family has a proud GW heritage.
Emson's father Kenny is a GW Athletics Hall of Fame member who totaled 27 goals and 15 assists as a midfielder for the Colonials from 1985-88 and still ranks eighth on the program's all-time points list, while his mother Marybeth is also a GW graduate and former Colonials swimmer.
Emson has played in all 12 games for the Colonials, tallying 22 shots with 14 on goal to tie for the team lead in both categories. The rookie from nearby Arlington, Va., picked up his first career point vs. UMBC on Sept. 17 with an assist on a Sandro Weber goal.
SCOUTING HOWARD: The Bison dropped a 4-0 decision at Appalachian State on Saturday in their Atlantic Sun opener to fall to 2-8-1 overall.
Andres Gomez is responsible for scoring five of Howard's nine goals this season.
GW and Howard meet for the first time since 2015. The crosstown foes' all-time series is tied 19-19-5, though the Colonials have won the past four matchups.
UP NEXT: GW will honor seven seniors and two graduate students Saturday before a 2 p.m. kickoff vs. Davidson on Senior Day at the Vern. The Colonials then close their home slate next Wednesday, Oct. 23, with a 2 p.m. start vs. Saint Joseph's.
