Colonials earn a 194.125 to finish third

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – In its second meet of the weekend, the George Washington gymnastics team posted a season-high score on uneven bars, but finished third in tri-meet action at West Virginia with 194.125 on Sunday afternoon.
In their home opener, the Mountaineers tallied 194.925 to top the field, while Kent State finished second with 194.450.
GW (2-4, 0-2 EAGL) earned its 194.125 behind team scores of 48.600 on vault, a season-high 48.625 on bars, a 48.150 on beam, and a 48.750 on floor.
Fifth-year co-captain Alex Zois continued her dominance in the all-around on Sunday afternoon, earning her third-straight all-around title with a score of 38.950.
ROTATION ONE
The Colonials started the day off on floor, tallying a team score of 48.750. Zois paced the squad with a season-high matching 9.850, a score that earned her third place, while Rachel Kaplan and Olivia Zona posted matching 9.775s. For Kaplan, the 9.775 marks the second time this season that she has matched her career-high. Rounding out GW on floor was Cydney Crasa (9.700), Katya Karpova (9.650), and Simone Banen (9.650).
ROTATION TWO
GW then turned its attention to vault, finishing with a 48.600. For the second-straight meet, Zona surpassed her personal-best, earning a team-high 9.750. Senior co-captain Julia McLaughlin also finished with a 9.750, a season-high, while Crasa, Chloe Vitoff, and Anna Warhol followed closely behind with identical 9.700s.
ROTATION THREE
The Colonials took to bars for the third rotation, posting a season-best 48.625, a.425 increase from yesterday's score at Pittsburgh. Leading the way was Banen, who posted a personal-best score of 9.800 to finish in a tie for first. Zois also had a strong performance for GW on bars with a 9.775, while Hannah Cohen finished with a season-high 9.700. Raymond and McLaughlin rounded out the score for the Buff and Blue with identical 9.675s.
ROTATION FOUR
The Buff and Blue headed to beam to close out the day, registering a 48.150. The beam lineup with highlighted by fifth-year Brooke Bray, who after matching her career-high 9.775 yesterday, upped her game with a 9.800, a score that placed her at the top of the podium. Banen also had a solid performance, recording a 9.750, while Zois finished with a 9.725. Karpova added a 9.625 and Cohen posted a 9.250 to wrap up GW's afternoon of competition.
LOOK AHEAD: After back-to-back competition this weekend, the Colonials will turn their attention to their third straight road meet next Sunday at New Hampshire, the site of the 2019 East Atlantic Gymnastics League Championship.
