Volleyball Knocks Off LIU Brooklyn in Five Sets

Colonials pick up seventh straight five-set win, third in 2018
BROOKLYN, N.Y. – GW Volleyball finished its weekend on a positive note, defeating LIU Brooklyn in five sets on Saturday afternoon at Steinberg Wellness Center. The Colonials (3-5) have won all three of their matches this year in five sets and have won seven straight in those situations.
GW 3, LIU Brooklyn 2 (23-25, 25-22, 25-21, 22-25, 15-9)
Key Stats
• GW hit .201 (58k-21e-184a) in the affair, posting at least a .200 attack percentage in four of the five sets.
• Juniors Skylar Iott (21 kills, 13 digs), Jaimeson Lee (46 assists, 21 digs), and Jordan Young (13 kills, 14 digs) each recorded double-doubles, with Lee extending her personal streak to seven straight matches.
• Young tied a school five-set record with six aces while also contributing three block assists.
• The Colonials tallied 11 aces as a team and outblocked the Blackbirds (3-6), 11.5-4.0.

Set 1: LIU Brooklyn 25, GW 23
• The Blackbirds bolted out to a 14-6 advantage before the Colonials raced back on a 15-5 run to grab a 21-20 lead.
• LIU Brooklyn rebounded to secure five of the final seven points to win the set.
• Despite the setback, GW had a tremendous attacking set, hitting .324 (15k-3e-37a).
Set 2: GW 25, LIU Brooklyn 22
• GW rallied from a mid-set three-point deficit (18-15), utilizing a 7-1 spurt to move ahead.
• After the Blackbirds tied the set at 22, Iott recorded back-to-back kills, setting up Young, who finished the set with an ace to even the match.
Set 3: GW 25, LIU Brooklyn 21
• GW scored eight of the first nine points, and led by as many as 12 (18-6) before holding on to claim the third.
• The aces began to rain down as the Colonials recorded five in the third set to move ahead, two sets to one.
Set 4: LIU Brooklyn 25, GW 22
• The Blackbirds forced an extra set, utilizing a 4-0 run midway through the stanza to take the lead for good.
• Iott continued her strong match with five kills, two assists, and a block in the fourth.
Set 5: GW 15, LIU Brooklyn 9
• The Colonials dominated the tie-breaking set, racing out to a 5-0 lead and never looking back.
• Senior Alexis Lete, who finished with nine kills, seven block assists and a .444 attack percentage, put the capper on the match with a kill to send GW home with the win.

• GW returns home to host the Dig the District Invitational next weekend with four games in two days. The Colonials will entertain Alabama A&M (11 a.m.) and Hampton (7 p.m.) on Friday before welcoming Memphis (3 p.m.) and Coppin State (7 p.m.) on Saturday.
