Colonials make first road trip of season this weekend
Following a three-game homestand to start the fall, the Colonials (2-1) are set to face Brown on Friday before traveling to Providence on Sunday afternoon.
LAST TIME OUT: GW dropped a 1-0 decision to Lehigh last Saturday for its first loss of the season. The Colonials fell behind on a penalty kick in the 18th minute and couldn't produce the equalizer.
NATIONALLY RANKED: The Colonials continue to have a presence on the national leaderboard in several offensive categories. They lead the nation in assists (4.00 per game) and rank tied for eighth in scoring average (3.00 per game).
Individually, Oscar Haynes Brown remains the national leader in goals (seven) and sits tied for the top spot in points (15). Drini Redzepi and Joshua Yurasits have three assists apiece, which ranks tied for ninth in the country.
THOR RISING: After combining with Jason Re to blank American last Monday, senior goalkeeper Thor Arne Höfs has 18 career shutouts. The native of Germany has moved within two of Jeff Brown's program record of 20.
Höfs has recorded nine saves through three games and posted a 1.12 goals against average. He enters play Friday with 199 career saves in 45 games.
FIRST-TIME FOES: This will be GW's first meeting with both programs.
SCOUTING BROWN: The Bears started their season last Friday with a 2-1 win over Bryant, erasing a second-half deficit on late goals by Derek Waleffe and Daniel Schiller. They were picked to finish third in the Ivy League in the preseason.
SCOUTING PROVIDENCE: The Friars (1-2-1) host Albany on Friday before entertaining the Colonials. Tiago Mendoca has scored three of the team's four goals thus far, including the goal in last Monday's 2-1 loss at Harvard.
