Joshua Yurasits scored first career goal for Colonials
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – George Washington men's soccer kicked off its road schedule Friday night, dropping a 2-1 decision to Brown in overtime.
After falling behind early, the Colonials (2-2) fought back to tie it on Joshua Yurasits' first career goal in the 74th minute, but Rodrigo D'Andrea scored in the 93rd minute to give the Bears (2-0) the overtime victory at Stevenson-Pincince Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- 10th Minute: Brown jumped on top early, taking advantage of a GW turnover in front of its own net. Thor Arne Höfs stopped John Vrablic's initial shot, but Daniel Schiller managed to get to the rebound and net his second goal of the season. (Brown 1, GW 0)
- 74th Minute: Yurasits found the equalizer midway through the second half, sliding to deflect Oscar Haynes Brown's cross into the net. (GW 1, Brown 1)
- 93rd Minute: D'Andrea received a pass from Schiller, touched around a defender and angled his shot on the ground inside the right post for the golden goal. (Brown 2, GW 1)
NOTEWORTHY
- Yurasits turned his first shot of the season into his first career goal. The sophomore from Pennsylvania now has seven points as a Colonial via a goal and five assists in 22 games.
- Haynes Brown, the national leader with seven goals, recorded his second assist of the season. The sophomore from England's 16 points are already a career high.
- Höfs recorded a season-high six saves. His best stop of the night came in the 35th minute when he punched Nicolas Perez's blast over the bar to keep the deficit at 1-0.
- GW attempted five shots for the game. The goal turned out to be the lone one on target.
- GW played into extra time for the first time this season. It was their first overtime game since beating George Mason, 1-0, on Haynes Brown's golden goal on Oct. 4, 2017.
- This was the first ever meeting between these programs.
