Colonials return home for two matches next weekend
FAIRFAX, Va. – GW volleyball nabbed the opening set on the road Friday night before succumbing in four sets to host George Mason at the Recreation Athletic Complex.
George Mason 3, GW 1 (25-20, 19-25, 16-25, 10-25)
Key Stats
• The Colonials (7-7, 1-2) struggled attacking, being out-hit .130 to -.061 by the Patriots (4-9, 2-1).
• Juniors Skylar Iott (12 kills, 12 digs) and Jaimeson Lee (22 assists, 13 digs) recorded double-doubles in the contest.
• George Mason was able to control the match at the net, outblocking GW 19.5-3.0.
How it Happened
Set 1: GW 25, George Mason 20
• GW roared out to an 11-4 lead and never looked back, leading by as many as eight in cruising to a first set win.
• The Colonials held Mason to just six kills in the set and a .031 attack percentage in one of the strongest defensive sets of the campaign.
Set 2: George Mason 25, GW 19
• A back-and-forth opening to the set yielded a 16-14 edge for the Colonials before Mason scored four in a row to seize control.
• The Patriots finished by tallying 11 of the final 14 points to even the match.
Set 3: George Mason 25, GW 16
• Similar to the second set, Mason broke open an early tug of war with an elongated run, scoring five straight to break a 14-14 deadlock.
• The Patriots continued the run by scoring 11 of the final 13 points to pull ahead.
Set 4: George Mason 25, GW 10
• A 13-1 run for Mason put the match out of the reach as the Colonials dropped their first road A-10 contest of the season.
