Volleyball Battles Revolutionary Rival George Mason Friday

GW looks to win 15th straight vs Mason in 50th overall meeting
FIRST SERVE: After splitting its opening weekend of conference play, GW hits the road for the first time against A-10 competition, facing Revolutionary Rival George Mason on Friday at the Recreation Athletic Complex. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
ABOUT LAST WEEKEND: GW swept Saint Louis on Friday before falling to preseason No. 2 Dayton in four sets on Saturday. GW was led by junior setter Jaimeson Lee who continued her strong all-around game with a combined 56 assists, 19 digs, five blocks, and four kills in the two matches. She has now recorded 10 double-doubles in 13 matches. Junior Skylar Iott notched her eighth double-double of the year against Dayton with 15 kills and 14 digs.
ACROSS THE NET: George Mason followed suit last weekend, outlasting Saint Louis in five sets a day after being swept by Dayton. The Colonials and Patriots will be meeting for the 50th time on Friday with GW owning a dominant 41-8 edge. The Buff and Blue have won 14 consecutive matchups against Mason, including a five-set victory in Fairfax last year.
Mason is led offensively by Peyton Ehmke, the reigning A-10 Rookie of the Week. She paces the Patriots in points (121), kills (98), hitting percentage (.269), and blocks (42.0).
FIVE-SET PHENOMS: Four of GW's seven victories this season have been five-set wins, including a triumph over Morgan State on Sept. 14 in which the Colonials staved off three match points in the third set and came back to win. Dating back to last year, the Colonials have triumphed in eight straight five-set matches and are now 9-2 in those situations under second-year head coach Sarah Bernson.
X MARKS THE SPOT: The Colonials enter this weekend as the leaders in the conference in aces per set, averaging 1.35 per stanza. It has been a balanced approach with three players - Jordan Young (20), Skylar Iott (15), and Sydney Welch (12) - having registered double-digit aces this year. Young's 0.43 per set paces the league and ranks 51st in the nation.
