The Colonials took first place in women's and third in coed at a regatta co-hosted with Georgetown
The GW sailing team captured first place in a Women's Top 9 regatta at the Washington Sailing Marina to highlight a successful weekend on the water.
The Colonials co-hosted the Women's and Coed Top 9 regattas with Georgetown University and performed strongly in both, also taking a podium finish in Coed.
"The women's team continues to look really strong and they showed it with winning this event," said head coach Billy Martin. "In particular, Aitana Mendiguren and Sarah Noyes won their division. They've been sailing great all year and it's great to see them step up. They're going to be a formidable duo.
"The coed team came in third which is a great result led by Matt logue and Clare Cassidy-Gardner. They're really emerging as one of our top coed boats. The coed team is still getting reps and trying different boats and combinations so it's still a lot of experimentation, but there's plenty of talent and I'm really happy with our trajectory."
In addition to the regattas in Washington, GW had four sailors competing in the MAISA Men's Singlehanded Conference Championship at Navy. Though the Colonials didn't have anyone finish in the top five and earn a place in the ICSA National Championship, three underclassmen gained valuable experience with first-year Micheal Ehnot placing seventh, sophomore Soenke Jordan finishing ninth and first-year Cameron Feves taking 10th. Senior Adam DiDomizio, meanwhile, placed 12th.
"All four of our sailors sailed really well, particularly Michael," said Martin. "The scores were really tight between all of them so I'm proud of how they competed, they just came up a little short in qualifying for nationals. With two first-years and one sophomore getting that experience this year, I think we'll be strong for years to come."
