Volleyball Sweeps Saint Louis to Open A-10 Play

Three Colonials register at least nine kills in straight-set triumph
WASHINGTON – A balanced attack and a strong hitting display led GW volleyball to an impressive sweep of visiting Saint Louis on Friday night at the Smith Center.
The Colonials (7-5, 1-0) have now won five in a row, the longest winning streak for the program since Sept. 4-12, 2015.
GW 3, Saint Louis 0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-20)
Key Stats
• GW outhit Saint Louis (1-12, 0-1) .211-.164 in the sweep, despite recording one fewer kill (39-38).
• The Billikens held the edge in digs (63-54) and blocks (5.0-4.0), but fell victim to 13 service errors, 19 attack errors, and five receiving errors.
• Three different Colonials – juniors Jordan Young (10 kills) and Skylar Iott (9) and senior Kelsey Clark (9) – tallied at least nine kills on the night.
• Reigning A-10 Rookie of the Week Bella Bowman registered 20 digs, her sixth game with at least 20 digs on the season.
• Junior setter Jaimeson Lee dished out 25 assists while senior Alexis Lete added five kills, three service aces, and a block assist.
How it Happened
Set 1: GW 25, Saint Louis 21
• GW came out roaring with a 6-1 run to break open a 10-10 deadlock. SLU cut it to one at 22-21 before GW ran off the final three points of the set to claim victory.
• Iott (5 kills) and Clark (4) led the charge as GW hit .286 (14k-4e-35a) in the opening stanza.
Set 2: GW 25, Saint Louis 22
• The Colonials overcame an early hole with a 6-1 run to retake the lead at 12-11. GW would not relinquish the lead again, eventually scoring three of the final four points to win the set.
• Young posted an errorless set attacking, recording five kills in 11 attempts for a .455 attack percentage.
Set 3: GW 25, Saint Louis 20
• Once again, GW rallied out of an early deficit, trailing by as many as six at 13-7. After cutting the lead to 17-14, the Buff and Blue scored three straight and nine of the next 10 points to assert control.
• Back-to-back aces from Lete spurred the run, which ultimately ended with GW scoring 11 of the final 14 points to win the match on a kill from sophomore Callie Fauntleroy.
