Women’s Soccer to Host James Madison for Kickin’ it at The Vern

Colonials wrap up non-conference slate on Sunday
KICKING OFF: The George Washington women's soccer squad will wrap up their non-conference schedule on Sunday, September 16 at 3 p.m. when they host James Madison for Kickin' it at The Vern at the GW Soccer Field on the Mount Vernon Campus.
LAST TIME OUT: The Colonials battled Maryland to a 0-0 double overtime draw on Sunday evening at Ludwig Field. GW (4-2-1) had five scoring opportunities in the overtime periods but could not find the back of the net as they earned a draw on the road.
KICKIN' IT: Sunday's match will feature a cookout with games and free food for the first 200 fans in attendance.
WORKING OVERTIME: Sunday's draw at Maryland marked GW's second of the season. The Colonials edged the Terps by one with a 7-6 shots on goal margin and had their best look in the final minute of the second overtime period when Deena DeSilva took a corner kick and Sofia Pavon found the ball and shot it towards the net, but the shot was stopped by the Maryland keeper.
LEADING THE WAY: Alexis Williams paces the Buff and Blue with nine points (4g, 1a) and 15 shots (12 SOG) on the season, Pavon ranks second on the squad with 5 points (3g, 1a) and 14 shots, and Megan McCormick and Natalie Silberman sit in a tie-for-third with four points each.
ABOUT JMU: The Dukes (1-6) suffered their fifth consecutive loss on Sunday, falling to High Point 1-0 on a goal in the final two minutes of play. James Madison will host Liberty on Thursday before traveling to Washington, D.C. to face the Colonials on Sunday.
SERIES HISTORY: After 13 meetings with the Dukes, GW prevailed for only the second time last season, defeating James Madison, 2-1, in overtime. After trailing 1-0 going into the break, Williams pushed the game to overtime with an equalizer in the 58th minute. In dramatic fashion, the Colonials topped the Dukes in the final thirty seconds of play in the first extra period with a goal from Brittany Cooper.
ON DECK: The Colonials will kick off Atlantic 10 action on Thursday, September 20 when they host Rhode Island at the GW Soccer Field for a 4:30 p.m. bout. The squad will then head up to the Bronx to face Fordham on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
