Colonials to host four doubleheaders
WASHINGTON -Â George Washington softball will host four doubleheaders this fall in preparation for its first season under head coach Shane Winkler.
The Colonials begin their exhibition schedule Sept. 22 at the GW Softball Field on the Mount Vernon Campus with a doubleheader against Shenandoah, beginning at noon. The following weekend they're set for a pair of twin bills with Georgetown (Sept. 29) and Coppin State (Sept. 30) visiting for noon starts.
GW concludes its fall slate Oct. 20, hosting Delaware State for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
"I'm excited to announce our fall schedule and inch closer to playing actual games," Winkler said. "Anytime you have a new staff, it takes time for everyone to get comfortable with your style and system. The fall is all about teaching and learning. I'm looking forward to growing as a team as we compete this fall season."
Behind one of the nation's top offenses, GW set a program record with its 33 wins last spring and advanced to the Atlantic 10 Championship. The Colonials will look to build on that success in 2019 with their top seven hitters returning and three of their top four pitchers back.
