Women’s Soccer Hosts Crosstown Showdown

Colonials aim to extend season-opening win streak
KICKING OFF: The George Washington women's soccer squad will wrap up its three-match home stint on Thursday at 5 p.m. when they host local rival and Big East regular season and tournament champion Georgetown at the GW Soccer Field on the Mount Vernon Campus.
LAST TIME OUT: The Colonials (4-0-0) continued their season-opening win streak on Sunday afternoon, dropping Stetson, 4-1. After GW established a 2-0 lead early in the second half, the Hatters were able to cut the deficit to one with a goal of their own at the 59th minute before the Colonials pushed back offensively with another pair of tallies to cement their victory.
PLAYMAKER PAVON: Sofia Pavon has tallied a career-high three assists so far this season. The senior recorded a pair of helpers against Delaware on Thursday, marking her first career multi-assist match. The forward continued her momentum on Sunday, registering one assist against the visiting Hatters. Pavon has started all four contests in 2018 and sits second on the team with five points (1g, 3a).
OFFENSIVE UPTICK: The Colonials have seen a second half surge in each of their four matches, scoring seven of their nine total goals in the game's second stanza. Against the Hatters on Sunday, GW went from holding a 6-2 edge in shots going into the break to a 16-6 advantage at the conclusion of the contest. Nearly a third of those shots came from sophomore Natalie Silberman, who finished the day with a game-high two goals and five shots.
GETTING DEFENSIVE: The Buff and Blue backline has held their opponents to only two goals in 2018. Olivia Di Cristofaro leads all defenders with 363 minutes and has one shot on goal while Dani Frese has seen 358 minutes of action, Deena DeSilva has logged 357, and Megan McCormick has played 352. McCormick also paces all defenders with one goal and a career-high two assists.
ABOUT GEORGETOWN: The Hoyas (2-0-2) are coming off of a 3-1 victory against Yale on Sunday. Georgetown opened its season with a 1-0 shutout at Georgia before posting back-to-back draws at Virginia Tech (1-1) and against Duke (0-0). Kyra Carusa paces the squad with 5 points (2g, 1a) and keeper Arielle Schechtman leads the Hoyas between the pipes with a 0.29 GAA.
