Colonials fall to the Hoyas, 1-0
WASHINGTON - After opening the season on a four-match win streak, the George Washington women's soccer team held the visiting 2017 Big East regular season and tournament champion Georgetown scoreless through the first half of play, but a late second half Hoya goal proved to be the difference maker as the Colonials were edged 1-0 on Thursday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• 72nd Minute - After halting the Hoyas offense through 72 minutes of play, Georgetown was finally able to break through the GW back line with a tip-in goal following a scramble in front of the net. (GU 1, GW 0)
NOTEWORTHY
• Keeper Anna Tapen made a game-high eight saves between the pipes in tonight's match.
• Despite being outshot 12-9, the Colonials saw an offensive uptick in the second half, outshooting the Hoyas 7-4. Three of those shots came after the Georgetown goal in the 72nd minute.
• Megan McCormick and Natalie Silberman led the squad with two shots each, while Hannah Zaluski, Kelly Amador, Alexis Williams, Mia Barreda, and Deena DeSilva tallied one apiece.

The Colonials will have a chance to reset before wrapping up their non-conference schedule against a trio of tough opponents. GW will first travel to Raleigh, N.C. to face NC State on Thursday, September 6 (7:00 p.m.) before heading up to Maryland to take on the Terps on Sunday, September 9 (7:00 p.m.). The Buff and Blue will close out their non-conference slate at home on Sunday, September 16 when they host James Madison for a 3:00 p.m. kickoff
