Colonials travel to Maryland on Sunday
RALEIGH – In its second straight game against a top-15 opponent, the George Washington women's soccer team put up a strong defensive battle and held No. 13 NC State scoreless through the first half of play, but fell just short, dropping a 2-0 decision to the Wolfpack on Thursday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• 57th Minute: After outshooting NC State 4-2 in the first half, the Wolfpack responded after the break with a goal from Anna Toohey 12 minutes into the game's second stanza. Toohey took a pass to the outside from Kia Rankin and shot the ball towards the net, where it hit the left post and went in. (NC 1, GW 0)
• 78th Minute: Toohey created another score to pad the lead. This time, the Pack player took a pass from Tziarra King and shot the ball into the bottom left corner of the net. (NC 2, GW 0)
NOTEWORTHY
• Natalie Silberman, Kelly Amador, and Mia Barreda paced the team with two shots apiece while Hannah Zaluski, Sofia Pavon, Alexis Williams, and Deena DeSilva each recorded one. Silberman leads the squad with 13 shots on the season.
• Anna Tapen faced 13 shots and made five saves in today's contest. The senior keeper has already made a career-high 31 saves in 2018.
• NC State held a 13-10 edge in shots and 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.
