Each Wednesday morning this summer, the GW men’s basketball team is continuing its tradition of honoring our nation’s service men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice.
The Colonials run from the Smith Center to the Vietnam War Memorial Wall, where each student-athlete picks the name of one veteran.
For the next hour, the team does a series of exercises ranging from push-ups and jumping jacks facing the Washington Monument, to bear crawls, sprints and lunges in a field near the Lincoln Memorial Circle.
All the while, the name of that veteran is kept in mind. When the team returns to the Smith Center they write the name down on a white board, and then print out details of the person’s name they recorded to learn more about them and acknowledge the sacrifice made.
