WASHINGTON - George Washington baseball seniors Matt Cosentino and Mark Osis were each honored with annual awards over the past few weeks. Cosentino was named the recipient of the Jackie Robinson Award in late April while Osis was honored with the Warren H. Fulton Memorial Award during last weekend's home series against George Mason.
Cosentino, a senior first baseman from West Long Beach, New Jersey, was honored for exhibiting the attributes of Jackie Robinson, the legendary sports hero who famously broke Major League Baseball's color barrier 71 years ago last month.
Celebrating its 22nd anniversary in 2018, GW's Jackie Robinson Society sponsors discussions about Robinson and its members participate in community service projects associating his name and life's work with good deeds.
Past winners of the Jackie Robinson Award include Travis Crowder, Tom Shanley, Michael Parker, Joe Michalski, Dan Pfau, Derek Haese, Brian Frazier, Gavin Swanson, Bobby Lucas Jr., Tommy Gately, Max Kaplow, Ryan Xepoleas, Brookes Townsend, Matthieu Robert and Eddie Muhl.
The Warren Fulton III Memorial Award is in honor of the late GW baseball player who suddenly lost his life in 1988. Every year since the tragic loss, one GW baseball player has received the Fulton Award for exemplifying the spirit, teamwork and sportsmanship demonstrated by Fulton.
This year's winner, Mark Osis, has embodied all of the characteristics that Fulton lived by before his life was tragically cut short. Evidence of Osis' commitment to the spirit of the game and his teammates is evidenced by his track record both on and off the field.
Recently, he was named a national finalist (link) for the Senior CLASS award. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
Recent recipients of the Warren Fulton III Memorial Award include Andrew Selby, Andy Young, Craig LeJeune, Colin Milon and Justin Albright.
