LEADING OFF: The George Washington baseball team heads to the Gateway City this weekend to wrap the regular season with a three-game series at Saint Louis. The series is scheduled to run Thursday-Saturday with the opener on Thursday at 7 p.m. ET at the Billiken Sports Complex.
GW and Rhode Island are battling for the seventh and final spot in the championship field. The Colonials sit at 12-9 in the conference entering the weekend, while Rhode Island is 11-10. GW holds the tiebreaker over Rhode Island (winning percentage against common opponents) regardless of the Rams' series result against St. Bonaventure this weekend.
ALREADY GRADUATED: With the team on the road for the final series of the regular season, GW's nine seniors received their degrees at Tuesday's Athletics Commencement Ceremony. Click here (link) for a full recap of the event along with photos and video of Brandon Chapman's address.
POSSIBLY PASTEUR: Senior Isaiah Pasteur should be considered a candidate for Atlantic 10 Player of the Year after his incredible regular season. He continues to lead the Atlantic 10 in hits (74), runs (54), slugging percentage (.624) total bases (131), stolen bases (30) and triples (7) while boasting top-five conference rankings for batting average (3rd, .352), home runs (2nd, 10) and RBI (3rd, 46).
He also set a new program record by hitting safely in 32 consecutive games, a streak that stands as the third longest in the nation this season. He has totaled 21 multiple-hit games this season and has driven in multiple runs in a team-high 23 contests.
Pasteur has also had a serious impact on the team's success when on the mound. He boasts a 2-0 record, three saves and a 0.75 ERA over 24 innings and is limiting opponents to a .217 batting average.
TWO WITH TWENTY: GW is one of just six teams in the nation that features two players with at least 20 stolen bases this season. Pasteur leads the conference and ranks eighth nationally with 30 steals on the season, while senior Robbie Metz is fourth in the A-10 and 24th in the NCAA with 24 swipes.
TEAMWORK: As a team, GW boasts arguably the top offense in the Atlantic 10. The Colonials enter the final weekend of the regular season leading the league in both batting average (.294) and hits (511) while ranking second in runs (315), third in scoring (6.3), doubles (92), home runs (31) and slugging percentage (.417).
SERIES HISTORY: GW beat Saint Louis in the last meeting, which came in the opening game of the 2017 Atlantic 10 Championship on the Billikens' home field. The Billkens lead the all-time series, 16-8.
