The GW baseball team closes the non-conference portion of its schedule this week as it visits Towson on Tuesday before returning home to start a seven-game homestand when it hosts Coppin State at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Tucker Field at Barcroft Park.
GW (24-18) first visits the Tigers Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. looking to finish a season sweep after winning the first matchup, 13-2, back on March 28 at The Tuck. The Colonials lead the all-time series 38-9-2.
Wednesday's game with Coppin State will be highlighted by a pre-game ceremony in which head coach Gregg Ritchie will be presented with his championship ring from last September's USA Baseball U18 World Cup Title. Ritchie, serving as the hitting coach, helped Team USA go 9-0 with a .273 team batting average over the tournament. The squad slugged six home runs and a total of 37 extra-base hits while also logging 47 walks at the plate with a slugging percentage of .418 and an on-base percentage of .380. Fans are encouraged to be in their seats by 5:45 p.m. for the ceremony.
Following the matchup with Coppin State, the Colonials close out the regular season with three Atlantic 10 series. GW, which is currently in third place in the league standings, hosts George Mason (May 4-6) and VCU (May 11-13) before finishing up on the road at Saint Louis (May 17-19). The A-10 Championship will be held at The Tuck from May 23-26.
