The Colonials (27-15, 7-7 A-10) head into the three-game set one win shy of tying the program's single-season record, set in last spring's 28-24 campaign. LAST TIME OUT: GW split a Wednesday doubleheader at Revolutionary Rival George Mason.
After falling 4-1 in the opener, the Colonials bounced back with a complete effort to take the nightcap, 8-1. Elena Shelepak had three hits, including a three-run home run in the first inning that provided an early lead, while Sarah Costlow tossed her seventh complete game of the season to pick up the victory in the circle.
Jenna Cone had hits in both games to extend her on-base streak to a career-best 26 games. She's four shy of Megan Linn's program record set during the 2014 season.
BIG FINISH: Morgan Rinehart has put together a fine senior season. The veteran outfielder is hitting .333 in 105 at-bats and has already set career highs in nearly every offensive category, including hits (35), runs (29), doubles (9), home runs (4), RBIs (23) and total bases (60). She's also yet to commit an error in her 35 games in center field.
For her career, Rinehart ranks fourth on the program's all-time steals list (48) and tied for fifth in runs scored (84).
DYNAMIC DUO: Sarah Costlow and Sierra Lange are tied for fifth in the A-10 with 10 wins apiece. Costlow is 10-4 with a 2.62 ERA and seven complete games in 99 innings, while Lange is 10-6 with a 3.56 ERA and 83 strikeouts in 98 1/3 innings. The pair has combined to start 35 of GW's 42 games, including 12 of 14 in A-10 play.
SCOUTING DAYTON: The Flyers (21-19, 10-4) earned their eighth straight victory Wednesday, knocking off Purdue, 6-3, in nine innings. They currently sit third in the A-10 standings, two spots ahead of GW.
Manda Cash (10-5, 1.30 ERA) is the reigning A-10 Pitcher of the Week with Kyle Davidson (.352, 32 runs) and Abby Ehrenborg (.309, 6 HR) pacing the offense.
ON DECK: GW has a midweek trip to Hampton coming up next Wednesday before its final home A-10 series of the season April 28 and 29. The Colonials will host Saint Joseph's for Family Weekend and Senior Day.
