LEADING OFF: The George Washington baseball team continues its 10-game stretch on the road when it visits Fordham this weekend for a three-game Atlantic 10 series at Houlihan Park in the Bronx. First pitch in Friday's opener is slated for 3:00 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT: GW opened the extended road swing on Tuesday night with an extra-inning loss at Virginia. Senior Robbie Metz's RBI single in the top half of the eighth knotted the score to send the game into extra innings but Virginia used a pair of doubles in the bottom of the 12th to escape with the 3-2 victory.
ONE MORE: Senior Isaiah Pasteur went 2-for-3 in Tuesday's game with a pair of walks, one triple and one run to tie the GW baseball program record with a base hit in his 24th consecutive game. A hit on Friday will make him GW's record holder, surpassing Joey Bartosic.
As of press time the streak stands as the third-longest active streak in the NCAA this season behind Jameson Hannah of Dallas Baptist (35 games) and Hunter Lee of High Point (28).
ACE RACE: Saturday's game features a scheduled pitching matchup that features two of the most electric arms in the Atlantic 10 in Elliott Raimo for the Colonials and Ben Greenberg for Fordham.
Raimo dazzled for the third consecutive weekend in last Saturday's complete-game shutout victory over Richmond. In the effort, he extended his consecutive scoreless-innings streak to 19.2 innings, while scattering four hits and walking three with four strikeouts.
For the season, Raimo boasts a 3-2 record over eight starts and holds a 1.68 ERA (3rd in A-10). He has walked just nine batters on the year and is limiting opponents to a .199 batting average with 48 strikeouts.
Greenberg has been equally as dominant for Fordham this season. He has pitched to a 5-1 record over nine starts with a 1.69 ERA and 39 strikeouts over 48.0 innings. He limits opponents to a .181 batting average and has yielded just six extra-base hits on the season.
MEN OF STEAL: GW and Fordham are the top base-stealing teams in the Atlantic 10. Fordham leads the conference in both total steals (122) and steals per game (3.49) while GW ranks second in both categories (69 steals, 1.92/game).
OFFENSIVE FACE OFF: This weekend's series also features two potent offenses.
GW continues to pace the league in batting average (.289), hits (361), runs (235) and scoring (6.5/game) while sitting third in both doubles (65), home runs (26) and slugging percentage (.421).
On the other hand, Fordham ranks near the top of the conference in runs (4th, 212), doubles (2nd, 67), triples (1st, 15), RBI (4th, 184), extra-base hits (4th, 98) and batting average (2nd .277).
SERIES HISTORY: Fordham holds a three-game lead in the all-time series, 19-16. The teams last met during the 2016 season when the Rams won all three games in The Bronx.
