LEADING OFF: The George Washington baseball team will commence its Atlantic 10 conference schedule on Friday when it opens a three-game series with La Salle at Tucker Field at Barcroft Park. First pitch in Friday's opener is scheduled for 3 p.m.
GOOD TO BE HOME: The Colonials' 2018 home record improved to 8-2 with last weekend's 2-1 series victory over VMI. Tucker Field continues to provide a home-field advantage with GW now boasting a 23-12 mark there since February 22, 2017.
ROLL IT UP: GW's defense has been a strong point over the past few seasons and so far in 2018 the story remains the same. The Colonials lead the Atlantic 10 with 18 double plays turned at an average of 0.90 per game.
ON THE RUN: Another trademark of GW baseball over the past few seasons has been aggressive base running. The Colonials have continued that trend so far in 2018 and have totaled 27 stolen bases to date, a number that ranks fourth in the A-10 and in the top-50 nationally. Senior Isaiah Pasteur is a perfect 8-for-8 in attempts this season while classmates Robbie Metz (5-for-6) and Mark Osis (6-for-8) both have at least five swipes apiece.
HEAVY HITTER: Osis continues to lead GW's offensive attack while holding top-five conference rankings in batting average (.364, 4th in A-10), hits (28, 2nd in A-10), doubles (8, 1st in A-10) home runs (3, 4th in A-10) and RBI (17, 3rd in A-10).
SERIES HISTORY: GW swept last season's series in Philadelphia, surrendering just four runs total across the three games, to improve the lead in the all-time series to 35-16.
