Meyers Taylor, along with partner Lauren Gibbs, entered the day in the No. 2 spot and held steady with a four-run combined time of 3:22.52, seven hundredths of a second behind the German sled piloted by Mariama Jamanka. The former Colonial set an Olympic Sliding Centre course record with her first run Wednesday (50.46 seconds) to pull closer to the lead and posted another strong effort in her finale before being edged by the Germans. The Canadian sled led by Kaillie Humphries took bronze. (NBC will re-broadcast Wednesday's runs in primetime. An online replay is also available here.)
"I am through the roof," Meyers Taylor told reporters afterward. "I gave it everything I had today. I gave it everything I had yesterday. We threw down some runs and made Mariama come get it, and she did."
Meyers Taylor, who played softball at GW from 2003-to-2007, added to her medal collection after picking up bronze in Vancouver in 2010 and silver in Sochi four years ago. She's the first American woman to win three Olympic bobsled medals. Humphries is the only other athlete to accomplish that feat since the women's event debuted at the 2002 Salt Lake City Games.
Meyers arrived at GW as the softball program's first recruit and graduated as the Colonials' all-time leader in nearly every offensive category. The Georgia native was a two-time A-10 Student-Athlete of the Year and CoSIDA Academic All-American during her impressive career in Buff and Blue. Her No. 24 was retired by the program in 2014.
