Strong showing in 200 back highlights Colonials' final day
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Emils Pone and Andrew Cho went 1-2 in the 200-yard backstroke Sunday, helping George Washington men's swimming & diving close out a second-place finish at the Queens University Fall Frenzy.
Pone touched in a season-best time of 1:46.37, edging Cho, who was runner-up in 1:47.79.
The Colonials piled up 1,596 points over three days at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center to finish second out of 12 squads behind only the host Royals, who are the four-time defending Division II national champions.
HIGHLIGHTS
- In addition to Pone and Cho's 1-2 finish, Ryan Patterson (eighth) also qualified for the A final. Kaden Schwaiger (11th) and Nicolas Reeves (14th) scored for the Buff and Blue, as well.
- Tommi Wolst notched his fourth individual top-three finish of the weekend, placing third in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:01.70. Charles Sturgeon (2:05.33) and Youssef Ragab (2:05.48) were right behind him in fourth and fifth, respectively. Kyle Hrabovsky (23rd) also swam in the C final there.

- All three of them, plus Fath, teamed up on GW's top 400-yard freestyle relay team. That group was runner-up in 2:59.01 to close the meet.
- Three first-years represented the Buff and Blue well in the 200-yard butterfly. James Torrez, a rookie from California, placed sixth in the 200-yard butterfly in a GW all-time top 10 time of 1:51.37.
