Men's Swimming & Diving Takes Third at TYR Fall Classic

Colonials tallied a pair of runner-up finishes Saturday
NORTH MIAMI, Fla. - George Washington men's swimming & diving wrapped up a third-place finish Saturday at Florida International's TYR Fall Classic presented by Swiss Timing. The Colonials totaled 440.5 points over two days at Biscayne Bay Aquatic Center to finish third behind Army and Grand Canyon.
The Colonials picked up a pair of second-place finishes Saturday. Jake Ortiz was runner-up on the 1-meter board, while the 200-yard medley relay team of Andrew Cho, Tommi Wolst, Emils Pone and Alexander Auster also took second.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Ortiz wrapped up a strong season-opening meet by posting 262.20 in the 1-meter competition. The senior from New York took third on the 3-meter board Friday.
- The 200 medley relay team of Cho, Wolst, Pone and Auster finished runner-up behind Grand Canyon in 1:32.80.
- Pone was third in the 200-yard individual medley (1:54.08) and fourth in the 200-yard backstroke (1:52.34).
- Wolst finished third in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:07.77 and won the B final of the 200 IM in 1:53.76.
- Moritz Fath picked up his second individual podium finish of the meet with a third-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle in 4:37.76. The junior from Germany was runner-up in the 200-yard freestyle on Friday.
- The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Patrick Lersch, Dylan Arzoni, Cho and Auster took third in 3:04.87.
- Cho won the B final of the 200 back in 1:50.18. The junior from California was second in the 100 back on Friday.
- Lersch took fourth in the 100 free in 46.24 seconds.
UP NEXT: GW faces a pair of Power Five opponents next weekend. The Colonials head to Penn State on Friday afternoon before moving on to Pittsburgh on Saturday.
