Colonials hit road for dual meets at Penn State & Pitt
PITTSBURGH – George Washington men's swimming and diving closed a tough road trip Saturday matching up against Pittsburgh at Trees Pool. The Colonials had a quick turnaround after opening the dual meet season at Penn State on Friday afternoon.
PITT HIGHLIGHTS
- Andrew Cho earned his second win of the trip, this time taking the 100-yard backstroke in a season-best time of 49.98 seconds. The junior from California was also second in the 200-yard backstroke (1:50.15) and teamed with Alexander Auster, Dylan Arzoni and Patrick Lersch on a strong 200-yard freestyle relay showing (1:23.83).
- Wolst paced the Buff and Blue in three individual events for the second straight day, highlighted by a second-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:06.37).
- Josh Legge put together a pair of strong distance swims. The first-year from North Carolina took second in the 1,000-yard freestyle (9:48.34) and fourth in the 500-yard freestyle (4:44.54).
- James Torrez, a first-year from California, led the Colonials in the 200-yard butterfly, taking third in 1:53.67.
- Lersch (100 free), Auster (50 free), Emils Pone (100 fly), Moritz Fath (200 free) also notched individual third-place finishes.
- GW produced a pair of runner-up diving efforts. Jake Ortiz was second on the 3-meter board (314.33 ), while Peter Nachtwey took second on the 1-meter board (272.10).
PENN STATE HIGHLIGHTS
- Cho picked up a win in the 200 back in 1:50.02 with Pone in third. He was also part of a solid performance in the 400 free relay (3:04.67) with Dylan Arzoni, Auster and Patrick Lersch.
- Wolst earned second-place finishes against the Nittany Lions in the 100 breast (57.84) and 200 breast (2:07.65).
- Arzoni put together a strong meet, placing second in the 100 free (46.04), third in the 100 fly (51.25) and fifth in the 200 free (1:42.76).
- Fath finished runner-up in the 500 free in 4:35.90.
- Nachtwey led GW's divers on the 1-meter board (255.60) with Jake Ortiz pacing the 3-meter competition (264.75).
UP NEXT: After a three-week break, GW resumes its fall schedule with a home meet against crosstown foe Howard on Nov. 10 at 1 p.m. The Colonials are set to unveil their 2018 A-10 Championship banner at Charles E. Smith Center Pool prior to the meet.
