Colonials head to UMBC on Tuesday
George Washington men's soccer is back in action Tuesday with a trip to UMBC to close its non-conference schedule. The Colonials and Retrievers are set for a 7 p.m. kickoff in Baltimore, Md.
LAST TIME OUT: GW (5-6-3) played La Salle to a 1-1 draw on Saturday on the Mount Vernon Campus. Alexy Boehm had a memorable Senior Day, netting his first career goal with a header off Max Holdsworth's corner kick to tie the game in the 79th minute. Neither team could break the deadlock over the final 11 minutes of regulation and 20 minutes of overtime.
STRENGTH IN NUMBERS: Boehm became the ninth different GW scorer this season. It's the most Colonials to record goals since 10 student-athletes found the net for the Buff and Blue during the 2014 season.
Oscar Haynes Brown has scored half of GW's 22 goals with the rest spread around the lineup. Haukur Hilmarsson, Dylan Lightbourn and Brady O'Connor have netted two goals apiece, while Boehm, Joshua Yurasits, Marcelo Lage, Gabriel Seemungal and Peirce Williams have each scored once.
SHOT STOPPER: With 63 saves on the season, Höfs is tied with Saint Joseph's Joseph Boehm for the A-10 lead. The senior goalkeeper currently has recorded 253 saves for his career and needs just one more to tie Ward McIntyre for No. 5 on the program's all-time list. He became the program's all-time shutouts leader in a win over St. Bonaventure on Oct. 10 and added to his total with the 22nd clean sheet of his career last week in a scoreless draw at Fordham.
SCOUTING UMBC: The Retrievers (8-4-2) beat Binghamton, 1-0, in America East action on Saturday for their third straight victory. Matt Bailey's goal in the 22nd minute proved to be the game-winner.
Cesare Marconi has four goals and four assists to lead UMBC, which is 7-2-1 on its home field this season. Quantrell Jones has allowed just two goals in five games since taking over starting duties in net.
Last season, GW and UMBC battled to a 1-1 draw in the District. Oscar Haynes Brown scored for the Colonials off a feed from Christian Lawal, and Höfs set a career high with nine saves.
COMING UP: GW wraps ups its Atlantic 10 road slate on Saturday with a 3 p.m. start at Saint Louis. The Colonials are back at the Vern on Oct. 31 to close the regular season against Massachusetts at 2 p.m.
