Lete sets career high in attack percentage on errorless night
PHILADELPHIA – GW volleyball claimed a first-set triumph, but was unable to maintain the momentum in a four-set loss at La Salle on Friday night at Tom Gola Arena.
La Salle 3, GW 1 (25-18, 21-25, 19-25, 23-25)
Key Stats
• GW (8-12, 2-6) had its fourth-highest attack percentage of the season, hitting .231 (52k-19e-143a). However, La Salle (13-9, 5-3) posted a solid .270 (55k-21e-126a) attack percentage.
• Senior Alexis Lete notched nine kills without an error in 15 attempts for a career-best .600 attack percentage. She also added a solo block and two block assists.
• Junior Jaimeson Lee contributed 38 assists, seven digs, five block assists, a solo block, and a kill.
• The Colonials recorded eight blocks as a team, tied for the highest mark against an A-10 opponent this season.
How it Happened
Set 1: GW 25, La Salle 18
• The Colonials opened the match strong with a .250 attack percentage compared to .057 for La Salle en route to the first-set triumph.
• Junior Jordan Young and Lete capped off the set with consecutive kills to finish off a 13-6 run for GW.
Set 2: La Salle 25, GW 21
• The Explorers rebounded to even the match buoyed by an early seven-point edge in the set (13-6).
• GW closed to within two at 19-17 on consecutive blocks from senior Kelsey Clark and Lee, but the Buff & Blue would get no closer.
Set 3: La Salle 25, GW 19
• Both teams attacked extremely well after intermission with La Salle committing just one attack error in the third set while hitting .393.
• The Explorers didn't trail in the set after breaking open a 5-5 tie with three straight points.
Set 4: La Salle 25, GW 23
• The efficient attacking carried over to the fourth with La Salle posting a .452 (17k-3e-31a) to .389 (17k-3e-36a) edge to earn the victory.
• The nip-and-tuck set that featured 18 ties and seven lead changes was finally put away by the Explorers on consecutive kills to break a 23-23 deadlock.
