Colonials return to the Vern to honor five seniors
George Washington men's soccer will honor its five seniors before Saturday's game against La Salle on the Mount Vernon Campus.
Senior Day festivities recognizing Alastair Berry, Alexy Boehm, Thor Arne Höfs, Dylan Lightbourn and Jason Re will begin approximately 15 minutes before the 2 p.m. kickoff.
LAST TIME OUT: GW (5-6-2, 1-3-1 A-10) picked up a point in the A-10 standings on Wednesday at Fordham, playing the Rams to a scoreless draw. The Colonials continue to battle for positioning in the conference race with three regular season games remaining.
Höfs made six saves over 90 minutes of regulation and two 10-minute overtime periods against Fordham to earn his fifth clean sheet of the season and the 22nd of his career. The GW goalkeeper leads the conference with 60 stops through 13 games. He enters Saturday's match with 250 career saves, just four behind Ward McIntyre for the No. 5 spot on the program's all-time list.
INSTANT IMPACT: Marcelo Lage has started all 13 games in his first collegiate season, logging a team-high 1,202 minutes at the center back position. The 6-foot-5 defender from Massachusetts has gone the distance 12 times this year, including playing all 110 minutes Wednesday at Fordham. He's shown an ability to contribute to the offense, as well, with three points via a goal and an assist.
VETERAN PRESENCE: This senior class has combined to play 10,603 minutes in 181 total games with 105 starts at GW. Lightbourn is the top scorer of the group with 10 goals and four assists for his career, including a pair of tallies this season.
SCOUTING LA SALLE: The Explorers (2-10-2, 0-4-2) continue to look for their first A-10 win of the season. On Wednesday, they dropped a road game at Dayton, 2-0.
Soji Olatoye has five goals and 11 points to lead La Salle. No one else on the roster has scored more than once this season.
In last season's meeting, Brady O'Connor, Peirce Williams and Koby Osei-Wusu netted goals for GW, but La Salle scored twice in the final two minutes of regulation to claim a 5-3 win on its home field.
COMING UP: GW steps out of A-10 play on Tuesday with a non-conference game at UMBC. Then, the Colonials will travel to Saint Louis next Saturday for their final conference road trip of the regular season.
SENIOR CELEBRATION: Head coach Craig Jones reflects on this senior class before Höfs, Lightbourn, Re, Berry and Boehm reflect on their time as Colonials.
