Men's Soccer Draws With La Salle on Senior Day

Senior Alexy Boehm netted first career goal
WASHINGTON – Senior Alexy Boehm scored his first collegiate goal Saturday in the GW men's soccer team's 1-1 draw with La Salle on Senior Day on the Mount Vernon Campus.
Boehm's header off a corner kick from Max Holdsworth tied the game at 1 in the 79th minute, and the score stayed there through the final 11 minutes of regulation and two 10-minute overtime periods.
GW moves to 5-6-3 and 1-3-2 in Atlantic 10 play after its second conference draw of the week.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- 43rd Minute: La Salle took the lead with a goal just before the halftime break. Omari Cotterell finished a cross from Daniel McIntosh for the score. (La Salle 1, GW 0)
- 79th Minute: After threatening throughout the second half, GW broke through on Boehm's goal. The senior from Iowa made a near-post run and headed Holdsworth's service past the La Salle keeper. (GW 1, La Salle 1)
NOTEWORTHY
- After a slow start, GW controlled play for most of the second half and overtime. The Colonials outshot the Explorers, 22-15, for the game, including 11-6 in the second half and 6-2 in overtime. The home side recorded 10 of its 11 shots on net after halftime.
- Boehm recorded his first points of the season. The defender/midfielder entered the day with two points via a pair of assists for his career. He started on Senior Day and logged 79 minutes.
- Holdsworth picked up his fourth assist of the season to tie for the team lead.
- Thor Arne Höfs made three saves for GW on his Senior Day. The veteran goalkeeper now has 253 stops for his career, which ranks sixth in program history. The Explorers didn't put any shots on target in overtime Saturday.
- Senior Dylan Lightbourn had an active afternoon, putting three of his team-high five shots on goal. Alhaji Turay and Haukur Hilmarsson attempted four shots apiece.
- GW played into overtime for the second straight game and sixth time this season. The Colonials are 1-2-3 in contests that extend beyond 90 minutes.
- GW honored its five seniors in a pregame ceremony: Boehm, Höfs, Lightbourn, Alastair Berry and Jason Re.
UP NEXT: GW wraps its non-conference schedule Tuesday with a trip to UMBC. Next Saturday, the Colonials head to Saint Louis for their final A-10 road game of the regular season.
