ARLINGTON, Va. - The George Washington baseball team fell in the middle game of its three-game series with Saint Joseph's by a score of 9-5 on Friday afternoon at Tucker Field.

The Colonials got on the board first with a sacrifice fly by senior Cody Bryant in the bottom of the first, but the Hawks took advantage of an error in the top of the second that opened the door to a five-run inning.

The Hawks extended the lead to 6-1 with a run in the top of the third before GW cut into the deficit on a two-out, two-run single by freshman Nate Fassnacht in the bottom half of the fifth.

A three-run home run in the top of the seventh pushed the Hawks' lead back to six runs at 9-3.

Junior Brandon Chapman narrowly missed a big home run in the bottom of the eighth, instead settling for a two-run double off the top of the wall, which made the score 9-5. The Hawks were able to escape the inning and clinch the game with a scoreless ninth.

Senior Joey Bartosic and Andrew Selby shared the team lead with two hits while Fassnacht and Chapman each accounted for driving in two runs.

GW aims to avoid the sweep in Saturday's regular-season finale. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. with Senior Day festivities taking place at 2:15 p.m.
