PHILADELPHIA -- The George Washington Lacrosse team held a one goal lead going into the second half, but eventually fell to Atlantic 10 rival La Salle, 13-11, on Sunday afternoon at McCarthy Stadium.
Senior Bailey Forcier paced the Colonials with four goals and added an assist plus four ground balls. Senior Cassidy Shollenberger (3g) and junior Jocelyn Donohue (2g, 1a) tallied three points apiece, while Michaela Lynch recorded two points of her own on two goals.
GW applied the offensive pressure early in the first, with Donohue finding the back of the net just 57 seconds following the opening draw, while Forcier netted a goal of her own just one minute later to put the Colonials up 2-0. The Explorers rebounded, earning back-to-back goals to tie up the game at the 26:03 mark, but Forcier kept GW up by one with a free position shot. The two teams continued to trade goals to even the score at six, but a late surge in the remaining seven minutes with goals from Forcier and Shollenberger put GW up by one at the break, 8-7.
The Colonials pushed their lead to two early in the second half with a goal from Lynch, before the Explorers fired back with a goal of their own. Brooke Sands was able to find Shollenberger to maintain the 10-8 GW lead, but a goal by La Salle's Courtney Woolford kept the game within one. Lynch would score one more time for the Colonials, but a late 4-0 run by the Explorers put them up by two to end the game with a 13-11 decision.
Junior keeper Adele Wise recorded nine saves, while Kaitlyn Re stopped six shots for the Exploers.
The Colonials return to action on Thursday when they head to Fairfax, Virginia to take on Revolutionary Rival George Mason at 6 p.m.
