WASHINGTON - The George Washington softball squad heads to Atlantic 10 foe Saint Joseph's over the weekend for its final road trip of the regular season.
The Colonials (24-22, 7-10 A-10) and the Hawks (18-22, 9-5 A-10) are slated for a three-game set beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday.
With two A-10 series remaining, the Colonials are vying for a berth at the A-10 Championship for the second-straight year. Entering the weekend, GW is tied for sixth in the league standings with Saint Louis; the top six teams earn a spot at the Championship.
An NFCA Freshman of the Year top-25 finalist, Jenna Cone continues to lead the Colonials with a .384 average and a league-best 18 home runs in her rookie campaign. Fellow freshman Priscilla Martinez has had a stellar season as well, ranking third on the team with a .345 average and second with four long balls.
Seniors Megan Linn (.368) and Paige Kovalsky (.333) round out GW's top hitters, ranking second and fourth on the squad, respectively.
Junior Sarah Costlow (9-7, 2.39 ERA) has led the way in the circle, while freshmen Kaitlin Buff and Faith Weber have combined for 10 wins - five in conference play.
Saint Joseph's is slated to visit La Salle for an A-10 doubleheader on Thursday before hosting GW over the weekend. The Hawks most recently dropped a pair of games to Massachusetts in a rain-shortened series.
Saint Joseph's currently sits in fifth in the conference standings.
