LEADING OFF: The George Washington baseball team resumes its Atlantic 10 schedule by welcoming Rhode Island to Tucker Field at Barcorft Park for a three-game series. First pitch in game one is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
Saturday's game will be played to raise awareness and funds for the Vs. Cancer Foundation, an organization that has helped over 40,000 children throughout the United States during their battle with childhood cancer.
Sunday's game will serve as the annual Bark at Barcroft game when Colonials fans are invited to bring their dogs for an afternoon in the sun. A number of dog-friendly vendors will be on site with free giveaways along with promotional products and services.
HOME SWEET HOME: GW is 11-5 this season at Tucker Field and has won its last four games in a row. GW's bats perform well at home with a team batting average of .324 while averaging 6.8 runs per game at The Tuck.
STEAL YOUR BASE: This weekend's series features the top base-stealing teams in the conference in GW and Rhode Island. The teams share the conference lead with 59 pilfered sacks on the season. GW boasts the top two base stealers in the conference in senior Joey Bartosic (17 SB, 1st in A-10/20th in NCAA) and Mark Osis (13 SB, 2nd in A-10).
GW stole a program-record 15 bases in Tuesday's 20-7 rout of Coppin State. Bartosic and senior Andrew Selby led the onslaught with four steals apiece.
SELBY SURGING: Senior outfielder Andrew Selby has been on a tear as of late, hitting safely in the last eight games and 11 of his last 12 games. In the month of April (14 games) he is batting .358 (19-of-53) with 11 runs, one double, six RBIs, six walks and is 5-for-6 in stolen base attempts.
He is batting .304 on the season while leading the Atlantic 10 and ranking eighth in the nation with eight sacrifice bunts.
SCOUTING RHODE ISLAND: The Rams, the reigning Atlantic 10 Champions, enter the weekend series in second place in the conference with an 8-3 record and sit at 19-15 overall. The Rams took two-of-three from Richmond last weekend on the road and then picked up a 14-13 non-conference win over Hartford on Wednesday.
SERIES HISTORY: GW leads the all-time series, 25-22, and has won four of the last six meetings.
