The George Washington sailing team turned its attention back to fleet racing over the weekend with a pair of regattas, and took fourth place against a 20-team interconference field at the Navy Spring Regatta.
At Navy, skipper Brendan Shanahan and crews Andreea Ranney-Pace and Belle Strachan captured a third-place finish in A Division, finishing with 11 top-5 finishes out of 15 races. GW finished fourth overall, as Derek Poon-Tip and Shira Golub were seventh in B Division.
"We had two very competitive regattas at Coast Guard and Navy this past weekend," said head coach Billy Martin. "Spreading the coed team out over the two venues gave us the opportunity to mix sailors around before the coed MAISA Championship the final weekend in April at Cornell."
At Coast Guard, the Colonials were led by Kai Friesecke and Mercedes McPhee, who took an eighth place finish in A Division. Andrew Sheerin and Matthew Homa finished 11th in B Division as GW was 11th overall in the 18 team field.
The Colonials return to championship racing this coming weekend with the MAISA Spring Women's Championship, followed by the MAISA coed Championship the following weekend.
