NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The George Washington golf team closed the 2016-17 regular season with a T-5th finish at the Yale Spring Invitational on Saturday at The Course at Yale.
A pair of freshmen paced the Colonials with the first top-20 finishes of their careers, as Yoo Jin Kim led the way with a T-16th showing and classmate Adrian Castagnola tied for 19th. Kim shot an 8-over par 148 (75-73) at the par 70 course, while Castagnola was just one shot back at 149 (73-76).
Also placing in the top 25 of the 71-man field was redshirt junior Christian Cichan with a 10-over par 150 (75-75) to finish in a tie for 24th, while juniors Vince Palazzolo (76-76=152) and Jack Porcelli (74-78=152) rounded out the Colonials contingent with T-36th finishes.
The host Bulldogs captured both the individual and team championships as Will Bernstein shot a 1-under 139 and Yale as a team shot a 9-over 569 (284-285). GW finished with a 597 (297-300) to tie with St. John's for fifth place in the 13-team field.
GW now turns its attention to the Atlantic 10 Championship in Orlando, which will be held from April 28-30 at Grand Cyprus Resort. The Colonials took fourth place a year ago.
