LEADING OFF: The George Washington baseball team will play host to No. 10 Virginia for the first time in program history on Tuesday afternoon at Tucker Field at Barcroft Park. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT: The Colonials took the middle game of a three-game series at VMI over the weekend. GW bounced back from a 10-0 loss in game one for a 6-5 victory in game two for the team's third win of the season. VMI took the rubber match on Sunday, rallying from a 6-1 deficit to secure a 13-8 win.
ROOKIE ON TOP: Freshman Nate Fassnacht is GW's top hitter with a team-best .375 batting average across the first 12 games of the regular season. He ranks second in the Atlantic 10 with 18 hits while his batting average ranks 12th. He also leads GW with seven multiple-hit games.
STREAKING: Joey Bartosic hit safely in each game this past weekend to run his current hit streak to 10 consecutive games. The senior centerfielder is GW's program-record holder after his streak of 24 straight games spanned the end of the 2014 season and the beginning of 2015.
SWEENEY ON THE BUMP: Senior southpaw Shane Sweeney is the scheduled starting pitcher for Tuesday's game. In his last appearance he allowed just one unearned run across five innings in a no-decision against Georgetown last week.
For the season he boasts a 4.66 ERA across 9.2 innings of work.
DEFENSE: GW's defense leads the Atlantic 10 with 11 double plays turned, good for an average of 1.50 per game.
The Colonials are also the only team in NCAA Division I that has turned a triple play this season. GW registered a 1-4-3 double play that erased a two-on, no-out jam in the first inning of last week's game against Georgetown.
