WASHINGTON - The George Washington volleyball team kicked off its regular-season ending homestand with a key 3-1 win over visiting Duquesne on Friday night at the Charles E. Smith Center.

Key Stats
- Freshman Sydney Welch put forth a record-setting defensive effort for the Colonials. She totaled 34 digs which is a new single-match program record for a four-set contest.
- Senior Aaliya Davidson shared the team lead with 13 kills and added 10 digs for her ninth career double-double.
- Junior Kelsey Clark also totaled 13 kills while hitting .393 with just two attack errors. She added five digs, three block assists and a service ace.
- Senior Kristel Moor was the third Colonial with double-digit kills. She finished with 10 winners along with a career-high 11 digs for her first career double-double.
- GW's defense totaled 91 digs compared to 82 for Duquesne while outblocking the Dukes, 10.0-9.0.
How It Happened
Set 1: GW 25, Duquesne 21
- The Colonials conceded just 10 kills while limiting Duquesne to a .048 attack percentage in the first.
- GW tallied 14 kills against seven errors (.156) while totaling two team blocks.
- Duquesne held an early 10-8 lead but the Colonials used a 10-4 run to turn the momentum and take a 18-14 lead.
- GW stayed out in front but an attack error late in the set pulled the Dukes within one of the lead at 21-20.
- The Colonials scored two straight points out of a timeout to take a 23-20 lead and held on for the win
Set 2: Duquesne 25, GW 13
- Duquesne forced 10 attack errors and committed just four of its own in a second-set win.
- The Dukes started on a 5-2 run.
- GW kept it close and trailed by just three points at 10-7 but the Dukes were able to extend the lead to 18-12.
- From that point, Duquesne closed on a 7-1 run to tie the match at 1-1.
Set 3: GW 25, Duquesne 22
- The Colonials assumed control of the match with a 25-22 win in the third.
- The defense limited Duquesne to a paltry attack rate of .080 (11k-7e-50a) in the third.
- GW started the set with three straight points but later fell behind, 10-8.
- A 4-1 run put the Colonials on top 12-11.
- The teams traded points until a 13-13 tie before GW erupted on a dominant 8-1 run to open a 21-14 lead.
- The Dukes battled back to get within two points at 24-22 but the Colonials turned away the rally to win the set and move ahead, 2-1, in the match.
Set 4: GW 25, Duquesne 22
- GW outlasted the Dukes through eight ties and five lead changes to clinch the match in the fourth.
- The Colonials erased an early 4-0 deficit to tie the set at 12-12.
- Neither team led by more than two points. Duquesne broke a 17-17 tie with a 3-1 run.
- Trailing 20-18, the Colonials scored two straight to tie it up at 20-20 and then closed on a 4-2 run to clinch the match.
