WASHINGTON - George Washington baseball senior Andy Young has been recognized as the 2016 Warren Fulton III Memorial Award recipient, head coach Gregg Ritchie announced on Tuesday afternoon.
The Warren Fulton III Memorial Award is given annually to the Colonial baseball player who best exemplifies the spirit, teamwork and sportsmanship demonstrated by the late Warren Fulton, who played for the Colonials from 1986-88. Fulton's life was tragically cut short during his senior season.
"I am so pleased that Andy has been chosen as this year's recipient of the Warren Fulton III Memorial Award," said Coach Ritchie. "Andy embodies the spirit of the award in honoring Warren. He is the ultimate teammate, beloved by his peers and leads at the highest level with his commitment, dedication and actions."
The Fulton Award, along with the Jackie Robinson Award, are the highest honors that a GW baseball player can receive. Senior catcher Matthieu Robert received the Jackie Robinson Award in a ceremony last month.
A Batavia, Illinois, native, Young has appeared in 45 games over the course of his career and has been a leader both on and off the field. He will graduate on Sunday with a degree in systems engineering.
