ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. -- On a windy and snowy afternoon at the Marra Athletics Complex, the George Washington lacrosse team dropped a 12-9 decision to host St. Bonaventure in Atlantic 10 action.
Seniors Julia Lawson and Olivia Boudreau and junior Michaela Lynch each scored twice for the Colonials, while senior Gabbi Hull and juniors Bailey Forcier and Cassidy Shollenberger tallied one goal apiece.
The Colonials picked up a season-high 33 ground balls and held a 33-20 advantage behind a career-high eight by Lynch, a career-best six by Hull and five by Lawson.
GW also forced 22 St. Bonaventure turnovers with 18 caused turnovers while committing just 12 of their own. Hull recorded a career-high four caused turnovers while Lawson had three.
The Bonnies took a 2-0 lead before Lynch put the Colonials on the board at the 21:48 mark. St. Bonaventure scored twice more and held a 4-2 halftime advantage after Lawson scored her first goal of the game with 2:01 remaining.
St. Bonaventure tallied three in a row to open the second period and take a 7-2 lead before Boudreau and Forcier went back-to-back to pull within three midway through the half. The Bonnies then used a 5-2 run to open a game-high six-goal lead, 12-6, with 6:14 remaining. The Colonials began to mount a comeback, scoring the final three goals of the game, but it was not enough to overcome their deficit in a 12-9 loss.
Sophomore goalkeeper Adele Wise stopped four shots between the pipes, while St. Bonaventure goalie Kerrigan Cummins recorded 13 saves. The Colonials took a season-high 39 shots in the game, outshooting the Bonnies, 39-17.
The Colonials return home next weekend to host Atlantic 10 rivals Davidson (Friday) and Massachusetts (Sunday) at the GW Lacrosse Field on the Mount Vernon Campus.
