ATLANTA - The George Washington women's tennis team fell in the weekend's opening match, 7-0, at host No. 67 Georgia State's Piedmont Park on Saturday.
Florida International (5-1) took the early doubles point with victories at the top two slots to take a 1-0 lead to begin the match.
In singles action, FIU increased its lead after taking the Nos. 5 and 4 matches in straight-sets. Another two-set win at No. 3 clinched the match for the Panthers.
Senior Lana Robins held a one set lead at the No. 2 position before retiring and giving FIU the match. Another Panthers' win at the sixth-slot left only a battle at the top spot.
No. 111 Teodora Radosavljevic came back from a one-set deficit to win a 6-0 second set win to even the score. As FIU had already clinched the match, the final set was played as a 10-point tiebreak, and FIU came out on top, 10-8, for Radosavljevic's first solo loss of the spring season to finish the day.
The Colonials return to action on Sunday to face host No. 67 Georgia State on Sunday for a 9 a.m. match at Piedmont Park.
