Cavanaugh Named Preseason First Team All Atlantic-10

PITTSBURGH - George Washington men's basketball graduate student Tyler Cavanaugh has been named First Team Preseason All Atlantic 10 by a panel of the league's head coaches and select media members.
Cavanaugh is joined on the first team by guard Jack Gibbs of Davidson, guard Charles Cooke of Dayton, guard Jaylen Adams of St. Bonaventure and forward T.J. Cline of Richmond. The awards were announced in conjunction with A-10 media day, which is being held at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, the site of the 2017 A-10 Championship.
Cavanaugh is coming off a dominant close to the 2015-16 season. The Syracuse, NY, native led the Colonials to the Postseason NIT Championship by averaging 19.4 points and 9.0 rebounds while shooting .500 from 3-point range (11-22) in five games to earn the tournament's Most Outstanding Player award.
For the season, Cavanaugh averaged 16.8 points, 7.6 rebounds, shot .417 from long distance, and recorded 11 double-doubles.
While starting all 38 games, Cavanaugh reached double figures in the scoring column every game while recording nine 20-point performances and one 30-point outing.
In the preseason poll, the Colonials were picked to finish eighth in the league. Dayton was chosen as the favorite, followed by Rhode Island, VCU, Davidson, St. Bonaventure, Richmond and La Salle. Following GW, Saint Joseph's, UMass, Fordham, George Mason, Duquesne and Saint Louis rounded out the poll.
