GW Volleyball Falters in Five-Set Loss at Lehigh

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Freshman Skylar Iott finished with a team-high 18 kills and senior Chidima Osuchukwu added 10 kills and seven blocks, but it was not enough as the George Washington volleyball team fell in five sets on the road in non-conference action at Lehigh. Set scores were 25-21, 25-22, 16-25, 20-25, 12-15.
GW hit .250 (13k-5e-32a) in the first set while forcing nine attack errors and limiting Lehigh to a .067 (11k-9e-30a) swing percentage on the way to a 25-21 win.
The Colonials put forth their best offensive effort of the match in the second set, hitting .370 with just two attack errors while totaling three blocks in a 25-22 win. GW trailed late in the frame at 18-17 but scored three straight points to begin a set-closing, 8-4 run to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
Lehigh opened the third set on a 16-3 run and never trailed in a 25-16 win to cut the deficit to 2-1. GW attempted a late comeback when facing an 18-5 deficit, scoring 11 of the next 17 points, but Lehigh got the final point on a kill.
The fourth set featured 10 tie scores, the last coming at 17-17 when the Mountain Hawks broke the stalemate on a kill to begin a set-clinching 8-3 run to win 25-20 and tie the match at 2-2.
GW opened the fifth set on a 3-0 run to force a Lehigh timeout. Out of the stoppage, the teams traded points until an 11-9 GW lead. From there, Lehigh scored four straight points to seize a 13-11 lead. A kill by Iott halted the run to make the score 13-12, but Lehigh clinched the match on a kill and service ace to complete the comeback.
Junior Aaliya Davidson finished with nine kills, 12 digs and three blocks (one solo, two assists) while freshman Jordan Young contributed nine kills, four digs and seven blocks (one solo, six assists).
Senior Emily Clemens added a double-double with 32 assists and 12 digs.
GW resumes its Atlantic 10 schedule and the Revolutionary Rivalry on Friday with a visit to George Mason. First serve is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
