WASHINGTON - Fresh off a dominating summer season in the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL), George Washington senior Luke Olson has signed on with the Cotuit Kettleers of the famed Cape Cod Baseball League for the playoffs.
Olson becomes the first GW baseball player to appear in the Cape Cod League - the premier summer collegiate career in the nation - since Eric Cantrell '10 helped the Bourne Braves to the league championship in August 2009.
The 6-foot-4 right-handed pitcher made his first appearance for the Kettleers on August 1, throwing 2.2 innings of scoreless relief in an 11-0 victory over the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox.
Prior to signing in the Cape Cod League, Olson was a lights-out relief pitcher for the Plymouth Pilgrims in the NECBL. He appeared in a total of 15 games for the Pilgrims and posted a 1-1 record, eight saves and a 0.47 ERA across 19.0 innings. He surrendered just one earned run while tallying 17 strikeouts against zero walks.
The Kettleers open the playoffs on Monday evening in a best-of-three series against the Hyannis Harbor Hawks. Game one is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
