GW (22-23, 4-14 A-10) looks to build upon a four-game home win streak dating back to April 11. A sweep of the Rams (3-28, 1-18 A-10) would put the Buff and Blue at the 25-win mark for the third time in program history - the first two coming in 2012 (25-30) and 2013 (27-23).
The Colonials enter the weekend after falling in their road finale at Fordham. In Game 1 of the three-game series, senior Victoria Valos smacked her 200th career hit and currently sits in a tie for the program's all-time mark with 202 - sharing the record with two-time Olympic medal-winning bobsledder Elana Meyers Taylor ('07).
Freshman pitcher Sarah Costlow has set a GW rookie record with a team-high 14 victories this season and is just one shy of tying the program's single season best of 15, a mark set by Kara Clauss ('12) in her final season.
Junior Carlee Gray continues to pace the Colonials offensively with a .361 average, while Valos leads the squad in home runs (7), RBIs (38), slugging percentage (.614), walks (26) and on-base percentage (.458). On the bases, sophomore Megan Linn leads GW with 21 swipes, while averaging 1.96 thefts per game - good for 12th in the nation.
Defensively, the Buff and Blue rank atop the A-10 in double plays turned with 23, crushing the previous program-high season mark of 15. An average of 0.51 double plays turned per game places the squad 10th in the nation in that category.
Sophomore Monica Macchiarulo holds a team-high .360 average in conference play and Valos has a career .526 (10-for-19) mark against Rhode Island.
URI most recently took a game from St. Bonaventure in a three-game series, outscoring the Bonnies, 7-2, for the Rams' first conference triumph.
Ali Summers leads Rhode Island with a .337 average and is tied with Kylie Shivery for a team-best 15 RBIs.
In the circle, Caitlin Kennedy has been responsible for 134.0 innings this season, earning one of the Rams' three victories, while Andrea Chiaradio and Olivia Hendricks have each chipped in a win.
The Colonials lead in the all-time series with URI, 14-8, coming out on top in five of the last six meetings. A year ago the teams split a doubleheader at the URI Softball Complex.
Prior to Saturday's 12 p.m. first pitch, GW seniors Samantha Dos Santos, McKinley Tretler and Valos will be honored. Senior Day ceremonies are slated to begin at approximately 11:35 a.m. Sunday's season finale is scheduled for 12 p.m.
