2015 Atlantic 10 All-Conference Teams
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The George Washington lacrosse team earned five Atlantic 10 postseason honors, the league announced on Thursday.
Senior defender Jenn Seitz was named to the All-Conference First Team and All-Academic Team, and senior attacker Rachel Mia was tabbed to the All-Conference Second Team. In addition, freshman midfielder Brooke Sands was selected to the All-Rookie Team and junior midfielder Ellie Glasgow joined Seitz on the All-Academic squad.
Seitz anchored GW's defense for four years and led the Colonials with 30 ground balls and 18 caused turnovers this season, ranking ninth and 10th in the A-10, respectively. The native of Columbia, Maryland, started all 66 games in her career and ranks third all-time at GW with 97 draw controls and fourth with 123 ground balls.
A 2013 A-10 All-Conference Second Team selection, Seitz is the first Colonial to be named to the First Team since Sarah Phillips and Hilary Quinn in 2012. The finance major, who boasts a 3.77 cumulative grade-point average, also repeats on the All-Academic squad, the first Colonial to do so since Phillips from 2010-12. Seitz has been recognized on the A-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll every semester and earned a perfect 4.0 GPA in the fall.
Mia leads the A-10 with 47 goals in 2015 - the third-highest single-season total in program history - and she ranks 19th in the nation with 2.94 goals per game, scoring at least one goal in each contest. A two-time A-10 Player of the Week, Mia also ranked fourth in the conference with 49 points on the year and added 15 caused turnovers and 22 ground balls, second- and fourth-most on the team, respectively. The team co-captain from Millersville, Maryland, finished her career third all-time at GW with 134 goals and seventh with 141 points. Mia matched her own school record with seven goals against Mount St. Mary's on March 17.
Sands was GW's only freshman to play in all 16 games. A two-time A-10 Rookie of the Week, the Brookfield, Connecticut, native scored eight goals on 11 shots for an efficient .727 shooting percentage and added 10 ground balls, seven draw controls and five caused turnovers. Sands gives the Colonials an All-Rookie selection for the 10th year in a row.
Glasgow gives the Colonials multiple All-Academic Team selections for the second year in a row. A defensive midfielder, the native of Great Falls, Virginia, started 15 of 16 games and recorded career highs with 19 ground balls, 12 draw controls and eight caused turnovers. Glasgow boasts a 3.72 GPA as a public health major and has been recognized on the A-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll all five semesters.
