FAIRFAX, Va. - Sophomore Joey Bartosic went 3-for-3 for his team-leading 17th multiple-hit game of the season but it was not enough as the George Washington baseball team fell in game two at George Mason, 5-0, on Saturday afternoon at Spuhler Field.
After a scoreless first inning, George Mason (17-22-1, 6-8 A-10) plated two runs in the bottom of the second inning. The Patriots added a single run in the third and two more in the fifth and held on down the stretch for the victory.
GW (25-13, 11-5 A-10) had a chance to cut into the lead in the top of the fourth inning after loading the bases with two outs but the Patriots ended the threat.
George Mason's John Williams went the distance for the victory. He allowed four hits on the afternoon with two walks and three strikeouts.
Sunday's rubber match will decide both the series and the winner of the Revolutionary Rivalry point. GW still leads George Mason, 9.5-6.5, following the Patriots' victory over the Colonials in Friday's lacrosse game. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
