WASHINGTON - The George Washington softball squad looks to extend a three-game win streak at Atlantic 10 foe Dayton over the weekend as the Colonials play a trio of games at the UD Softball Field.
GW (21-17, 4-8 A-10) has won three of its last five conference games, most recently taking two-of-three from Saint Louis. Dayton (28-12, 12-2 A-10) currently sits atop the A-10 standings.
The Colonials downed Coppin State on Wednesday, 5-0, in freshman Sarah Costlow's 13th victory of the season, tying her with GW's top rookie mark. The Buff and Blue finished a six-game homestand with a 4-2 record.
Junior Carlee Gray leads the team with a .371 average and has batted .345 in conference play, while Valos claims a squad-high 36 RBIs and six home runs on the year. Sophomore Megan Linn leads the conference in stolen bases with 21 and is followed closely by classmate Bradleigh Breland (19).
Sophomore Paige Kovalsky holds an 8-1 record in the circle with three conference triumphs while holding A-10 opponents to a paltry .190 average.
Dayton has won five of its last six contests, falling to Ohio on Wednesday after sweeping a three-game set over Saint Joseph's last weekend.
Flyers Kayla English and Manda Cash are the reigning A-10 Co-Pitcher of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively. English, who earned her fourth honor of the season, holds a 14-5 record and leads the conference in ERA (1.46) and batting average against (.160).
Cash, who garnered her third top-rookie nod, owns a 7-1 mark in the circle with a 1.64 ERA and a team-high 103 strikeouts in 77 innings of work.
Offensively, Gabrielle Snyder leads the Flyers, batting .393 with a team-best 25 RBIs. Tiffany Ricks (.361) has stolen 11 bases and scored 26 runs on the season.
Last season, Valos led the Colonials with a 5-for-5 performance while Linn went 4-for-8 and scored a trio of runs as GW split a doubleheader with Dayton.
The Colonials trail in the all-time series, 11-12, but have won five of the last six meetings with the Flyers.
Saturday's doubleheader is slated to begin at 12 p.m. while Sunday's single game will also begin at noon.
